How do I join a Data Science Lab?
Register for the appropriate one-credit course and section in Purdue's registration system. The Fall 2026 page lists verified sections and CRNs. Enrollment availability can change, so the registration system is authoritative.
Do I need programming experience?
MA 16290 introduces Python and is designed as the beginning of the sequence. Later labs expect either a prior Data Science Lab or comparable Python experience.
Do the courses use physical hardware?
Yes. Depending on the course, students use microprocessors, sensors, cameras, LEDs, displays, and other small components. Section instructions explain how the equipment is distributed and used.
How much work happens outside the scheduled lab?
The in-person courses are designed around a weekly laboratory meeting, but preparation, corrections, make-ups, or unfinished work may require additional time. Each syllabus and Brightspace page states the current expectations.
Is there an online MA 16290 section?
An online version has been offered in prior terms, but no online Fall 2026 section is listed on this site. Consult Purdue's live registration system for the current offerings.
Can a lab support an honors contract?
Yes, for eligible paired courses. The public syllabi summarize the requirements. Enrolled students should use the current Brightspace instructions and contact Prof. Hood with questions.
Which calendar should I follow?
The public calendar is a useful overview. For enrolled students, the section-specific dates in Brightspace and Gradescope are authoritative.
